All About Subliminal Advertising

Subliminal advertising (also known as SA) is simply defined as promotional messages with hidden meanings that involves the recipient's subconscious mindset. The efficiency of subliminal advertisements is likely supported by scientific evidences, while certain industries are considering it as a jurisdiction in business practice deception.

The term "subliminal advertising" was invented by James Vicary during the 1950s. A market researcher by profession, Vicary founded The Subliminal Projection Co. to address the hidden messages between advertisements shown in movie theatres. The "Hungry? Eat Popcorn!" and "Drink Cola" messages seen throughout the film "Picnic" were deemed subliminal. However, Vicary claimed that these messages made the 1955 film successful.

In 1957, Vance Packard wrote and published "The Hidden Persuaders", a book about media manipulation during the 1950s. In his book, Packard revealed the significance of psychological techniques and motivational studies in manipulating public interest. A year after its release, The National Association of Broadcasters and concerned American networks prohibited the use of subliminal advertisements in television. The prohibition also took place in Australia and United Kingdom.

In 1973, an advertisement for the "Hüsker Dü" game was aired in the US and Canada. During the children's game commercial, the "Get it!" message was inserted. This in turn resulted to Canada's move in banning the said advertisement. Also in 1973, Wilson Bryan Key's book "Subliminal Seduction" was published. Although credible information in the book was accepted, public complaints were still made in opposition to SA. In January 1974, The Commission of Federal Communications issued a statement saying that subliminal advertisements are only means of tricking public interest.

The use of subliminal messages in advertisements still exists up to now. In fact, many marketing industries use SA as endeavor to input messages that may influence people. Any impact brought by subliminal advertisements may lead to overwhelming bad publicity, unless the hidden message behind the ad is unclear. In a report by the NEW SCIENTIST magazine (April 2006 issue), many researchers found out that subliminal advertisements work - only in some conditions. Furthermore, subliminal messages are more effective in convincing target audiences to choose a product (or service) over another instead of recreating their own necessity for the product.

Recent studies show that the human mind and eyes can notice and preserve subliminal advertisements, leaving mixed perceptions. In a CBS News report, a UK study revealed that the brain is more likely to record subliminal words, as well as those associated with positive emotions. However, several effects may be considered negative regardless of the gravity of subliminal messages addressed to a particular audience.

Subliminal advertisements influences the mood and product familiarity, but the evidence on its impact remains uncertain. Max Sutherland wrote in his "Advertising and the Mind of the Consumer" book that subliminal advertisements are oftentimes used as motivational strategies in slackening boredom and mediocrity in promoting a product. Subliminal messages also affects the things people buy. Case in point: You may hardly notice the soda brand the actor drinks since your mind is on the actor himself.

5 Tips for Using Vehicle Fleet Graphics for Business Promotion

Marketing and advertising is all about prompting potential customers to visit your company location or website. In today's economy, every effort you make to promote your business should be made with the intention of making potential customers aware of your products and services. With a little bit of creative thinking and the use of large scale graphics, you can find ways to create high-visibility marketing activities that will create a buzz about your business and increase sales.

Tip #1 - Use Car Graphics

If your business is largely dependent on local customers, you need to take actions that will draw the attention of potential customers. One method is to use car graphics and car wraps. These are large scale graphic design decals that are printed for your specific needs. A skilled graphic printer is able to create and manufacture wonderful car wraps that integrate your company logo and basic information about your company and products.

Tip #2 - Advertise Your Products

One approach to wrapping vehicles is to advertise specific products. You can use your fleet of business vehicles to highlight products you are currently promoting with cut vinyl decals. Cut vinyl decals and car wraps are wonderful advertising products. They do not require any permanent paint and can be changed as frequently as you want without damaging your car.

Tip #3 - Use Seasonal Promotions

Since you can change vinyl car decals and car wraps frequently, you can also use them for seasonal promotions. If you have products that are associated with specific holidays, use that information and have a car decal design that integrates holiday images with your products. If there are seasons associated with your services, make sure to integrate that information into your car decal design. For example, if you sell homeowners insurance, have a car wrap designed that integrates images of storms and contact information for claims.

Tip #4 - Use Both Your Vehicle and Decals for Advertising

One method of advertising and marketing is to have a cohesive design for your vehicles. Many companies have a set standard vehicle associated with their company. For example, Peapod, which is a grocery home delivery company, has lime green VW Bugs as their company vehicle. These vehicles are covered with a car wrap that advertises their services and special product promotions. If you need several vehicles for your business, consider using a similar approach so that when potential customers see someone driving in a company car, there is automatic business and product recognition.

Tip #5 - Advertise, Advertise, Advertise

Marketing is all about creating public awareness of your products and services. By using large scale graphics on your vehicles, you take advantage of the fact that a car is a large object that is easily noticed on the road. Even if you do not want to apply a car wrap to your cars, consider advertising on your cars with magnetic signs.

Advertising using vehicle decals can be a very simple and easy process. You do not need to alter the paint on your car in any way and they are easy to change. Car warps and magnetic signs are a simple way to draw attention to your business, services and products.

How Can Business Network Websites Help Your Business?

John Wanamaker once said 'Half the money on spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half.' The world of advertising and marketing has completely changed by the invention of internet. There are now many ways a business can promote itself online without incurring any cost. In the world of free online marketing, John Wanamaker's dilemma no longer exists.

One of the ways in which a business can promote itself for free is through the use of business network websites. Business network websites are websites that let companies connect directly with potential partners, collaborators, suppliers and customers. Users can search for a specific type of companies by location or search for companies (manufacturers, wholesalers, suppliers) of a given type of product or service. This makes it very easy for anyone to find the company they want. Their networking technology usually allows users to communicate directly with the companies via online messages, emails, instant messages and maybe even live chat. Their platform is designed so you can do two things:

1. search and find companies that might be your target suppliers, partners or customers
2. contact and connect with the companies you are interested in

The benefit of such networking facility is obvious, you can actively seek out suppliers, partners and customers to expand your business opportunities as opposed to waiting for them to find you. You can find and connect directly with suppliers who might be able to supply your business at lower cost and you can find and connect directly with potential customers to create new sales for your business.

Usually such websites are free to use with the option for the user to upgrade to a premium account for an annual fee. The premium account will come with features not available in the basic account, features that will give the user a competitive edge.

For smaller businesses these free networks allow them to create a dedicated page to promote their information, products, services including photos, prices, videos and more. Their pages on these websites will appear on all search engines, essentially giving them a second 'website', where people can reach them. This significantly increases a company's online presence and gives them direct exposure to high quality search engine traffic - people who are looking for exactly the type of products and services they are offering. This highly targeted audience adds immense value to a business because they have already shown a genuine interest in the products and services so would most likely commit to a purchase. This is as good as it gets as far as advertising goes. Therefore it is a no brainer that any business should take advantage of this type of websites out there to promote themselves, their products and services and use them to connect with new customers.

How to Stretch Your Small Business Marketing Budget

There are many advantages to being a small business. Unfortunately, having a large marketing budget isn't one of them. Here's some advice on how you can get the most out of your marketing expenditures.

Market Tactically

Rather than spreading flyers across your entire city, try to focus on zip codes that you believe fit the specific demographics of your target market. Most delivery companies that deal with commercial flyers can help you with the important demographic trends in each neighborhood.

Market Locally

If you have a storefront then do not waste the opportunity to use your store window to attract the attention of people who are walking or driving by. It is important that you follow the city sign bylaws but its most important that your message is clear, professional and motivating.

For permanent signs, make sure your sign not only shows your business name and logo, but also describes what it sells. If your business name is already descriptive, like 'Zaza's Evening Apparel', it is obvious. If instead, your store name is 'Lady Gaia', be sure to use a tag line, such as 'Apparel and Gift Boutique'. This triggers ideas as people pass your store, perhaps reminding them of a need or want.

For other signage, keep messages short and to the point with the most important thing being a message that is actionable. Let your it state what you do, but include a benefit. "We are proud to offer Chicago's best pizza" is good. "$5.00 Medium Pepperoni Pizza - Hot & Fresh" is better. "$5 Med Pizza Hot & Ready..." you're getting the point!

Market Clearly

Even the most carefully planned and worded ad doesn't mean anything if it is not read by your potential customers. Remember, people have busy lives are not as likely to digest your message if it is too long, too wordy, or obscure in anyway.

Study ads that catch your attention for products that you are likely to purchase, but that are not in the forefront or your mind. Use easy to read fonts and do not overload your ad with dizzying colors. Big lettering is generally good, and limit your fonts to one or two styles.

Small businesses have the advantage of being able to react quickly to changes in the market. Develop and test new messages to learn what is most attractive to customers. Take advantage of your agility and maximize your advertising investment.

Simple But High Impact Marketing Strategy

In today's electronic age, it's easy to say that print marketing is already obsolete. But if you look at the benefit printed materials provide to businesses, you would realize that print marketing is still important these days. The tangible presence they give to people cannot be underestimated. In a world where a business' credibility is often in question, a tangible marketing material will play a huge role in gaining the trust of people.

One good printed material worth investing in until today is the flyer. A well targeted flyer campaign will provide good value for anyone's money. It will help deliver your marketing message to the right people especially those who are not internet savvy. This only shows that flyer printing is one efficient marketing strategy that is worth your money.

With one impressive flyer design, you can be sure to put your product and your business visible on the streets. This will give you the chance to communicate with your target audience in a quick, simple, and affordable way. Of course, it is important that you get your custom flyers look rather catchy and dazzling so you can easily grab attention. Read on to know the best way to come up with the perfect marketing flyers for your business.

Captivate your audience with eye-popping design

It is crucial that you get the perfect look for your material. You have to think about it carefully so you can easily amaze and impress your target customers. It will always help to look at flyer samples beforehand so you can get ideas and inspirations. It will also be best if you get to know your customers and prospects first so you know the perfect design that will pique their interest. A little research will help you in this endeavor.

You have to carefully pick the color and image to put on your layout. It's best if you limit the colors to just two or three so you don't convey a confusing message. The image has to also be limited since there is not enough space to accommodate a lot of images. It's best if you use just one big image rather than scatter a lot of small images on the layout. That will only make your design look unorganized and confusing.

Interesting content

You have to deliver your message straight on. Keep in mind that there are plenty of other ads out there trying to get customer's attention. If you don't deliver your message quickly and clearly, people will easily get distracted and put your flyer down. It is best if you deliver your message in the quickest way possible.

Print within budget

You don't have to spend a fortune to create the best full color custom flyers. There are plenty of print shops today that will let you print your materials in the most affordable way. You simply have to do a good research so you find the perfect printer for the job. It will help if you have a set budget for the print job so you don't end up spending more than you need in printing.

With the perfect design and message, your flyers will surely be a hit. They will open a lot of possibilities to you and your business. The key is knowing how to come up with the perfect design and message that will stir the interest and attention of your target audience.

Change is the only thing constant in this world

Change is the only thing constant in this world. It is inevitable; it is dominant; it is continuing. One day you're up, the next you're down. No one knows how and when changes will happen, but it will surely happen. Over the years, the business industry has gone through a lot of changes. In the past everything was done manually, today everything seems electronic. Decades ago, communications are delivered by people and it takes days to get them to the recipients. Today, it takes just a few clicks to get your message delivered.

The changes may have been drastic but surely for the better. They have been catalysts of the new age and the new world we are living today. However, these changes are not always conclusive. There are still things that remain the same and work hand in hand with the new additions. This is particularly true in business. It's worth noting that some of the traditional marketing tools we have been used to are still effective these days despite the widespread use of online marketing. But these traditional tools have somehow gone through some changes in order to keep up with the changes in the industry.

Let's take brochure printing as an example. This material is designed to provide customers and prospects are concise but complete overview of your business. It conveys the facts, features, and benefits you provide. It is meant to stir the curiosity of people so they will be encouraged to contact you if they want to know more. Through the years, brochures have gone through some changes that allow them to compete well with modern marketing techniques. Notable among these changes are the following:

1- The use of full color. In the past, black and white printing was the trend. Every material is printed in black and white. With the advent of modern printing machines and techniques, color printing has been made possible and affordable. Today, every brochure comes in color. This has made the material look more interesting and eye-popping. When it is handed out to people, it never fails to catch their attention and interest them.

2- Unique shapes and sizes. Brochures used to be just a simple collection of paper printed with important business details. With modern advancements, this material has evolved as well. It can now come in different folds such as tri-fold and bi-fold, and in different shapes. Die cut printing can be used to give the material a unique shape. It can also be oversized or undersized depending on the size that you prefer.

3- Incorporation of images. A full text brochure looks boring. Although it will provide information to readers, reading can be a burden if all they see are letters and texts. To break the monotony of the material, images can be included on it. Modern printing machines allow for images to be included in the layout. This has made the brochure look more captivating and fascinating.

4- Availability of templates. If you want an easy and quick way of designing your brochure, you can easily find brochure templates that will fit your need. Online print shops have templates available on their website which you can download for free. This will help you create your brochure in no time.

Display Advertising

After the recession that had business and advertisers reeling, much of the online advertising focus was centered on webcasts and email programs. The hope was that these tools would be able to drive up sales, but recently a different online medium seems to be heating up and garnering more attention: display advertising. Display advertising, or banner advertising, is the use of a picture or logo, paired with a succinct piece of text to advertise a brand or product. The tiny picture ads that you see on Google or Facebook are good examples of display ads that are prevalent and effective.

The world of display ads is exploding to the point that it is projected to outpace search marketing, in terms of amount spent, by 2015. The reasons for this unprecedented growth is that marketers are coming to the conclusion that they need to create brand awareness and give the consumers content earlier on in the sales process, as opposed to viewing online advertising as something to be tacked on to a campaign as an afterthought. They also would like to increase the number of times that they can come in contact with these consumers. Given the popularity of Facebook in particular, display ads have become the way to ensure a greater frequency of connection between advertisers and potential consumers.

One other major plus of online display advertising is that they can be specifically targeted and easily tracked. This means that marketers have the ability to aim their display ads at particular audiences, and monitor their success in generating revenue. Additionally, the ads can be retargeted which allows a certain company's ads to be redirected to consumers who have visited that company's website, effectively maximizing ROI.

Interestingly, evolution in targeting strategies is causing there to be a junction of display advertising, search advertising, and social media, which have traditionally remained mutually exclusive. Thus, it's important to utilize a display ad platform with wide and premium access such as Adblade to reach an ad's full potential. When utilizing premium ad networks, advertisers have their ads targeted to specific sites to reach whatever niche audience they are aiming for. The result is an ad that is trafficked in a place where it actually garners views that can turn into revenue. Even the best display ad will never reach is full potential if it is displayed on a website that does not reach the targeted audience.
